Rautakauden Juuda on yksi esimerkki pienestä kuningaskunnasta, joka joutui Mesopotamian imperiumien piirityssodankäynnin kohteeksi.
Lakisista tehdyt arkeologiset löydöt ja Sanheribin palatsista Ninivestä löydetyt reliefit tarjoavat poikkeuksellisen paljon aineistoa piirityssodan-käynnistä. Silti nekään eivät riitä tarkan kokonaiskuvan muodostami-seen Lakisin piirityksestä, vaan monta yksityiskohtaa joudumme olet-tamaan eri-ikäisten lähteiden pohjalta. Kuva piirityssodankäynnissä tapahtuneista muutoksista tulee uusien kaivausten ja tutkimusten myötä tarkentumaan tulevaisuudessa.
Lakisin hyökkäysramppi, sitä vastaan rakennettu vastaramppi ja aseistuksen jäänteet osoittavat ennen kaikkea kuinka paljon voimavaroja piirittäjä joutui käyttämään piirityksen murtamiseen. Toisaalta ne näyttävät myös, kuinka piiritetyn kaupungin asukkaat ryhtyivät

Piirityssodankäynti oli raskas ja kuluttava sodankäynnin muoto niin hyökkääjille kuin piiritettyyn kaupunkiin jääneille. Molemmin puolin oli laskettava tarkkaan tulevan piirityksen kustannukset. Piirittä-minen ja sillä uhkaaPiirittä-minen oli kuitenkin yleistä ja siitä muodostui kes-keinen teema niin erilaisissa annaaleissa kuin muussakin Lähi-idän kirjallisuudessa. Mesopotamian imperiumien piirityssodankäynti pysyi ilmeisesti monin tavoin samantyyppisenä yli tuhannen vuoden ajan, sillä kaupunkien suojarakenteet pysyivät samankaltaisina, eikä piiritys-sodankäyntiin kehitetty uudentyyppistä aseistusta. Vasta myöhemmin heittoaseet, kuten katapultit, muuttivat tilannetta.
