4.2 Jatkotutkimuskohteet
Tutkimuksemme osoitti, että perheterapiassa tuetaan vanhempien minäpystyvyyttä useilla eri keinoilla ja tukemisen muuttuvan sen mukaan, missä vaiheessa terapiaprosessia oltiin. Emme tässä tutkimuksessa mitanneet vanhempien minäpystyvyyden tasoa, minkä vuoksi emme voi sanoa varmaksi, tukivatko löytämämme keinot vanhempien minäpystyvyyttä. Jatkotutkimuksissa olisikin tärkeää tutkia sekä minäpystyvyyttä tukevia konkreettisia keinoja että vanhempien minäpystyvyyden tasoa, jotta keinojen vaikuttavuus voitaisiin todeta. Näin saataisiin tärkeää tietoa siitä, kuinka vanhempien minäpystyvyyttä voitaisiin tukea mahdollisimman tehokkaasti. Tämä edellyttää tiedon saamista siitä, mitkä konkreettiset keinot ovat tehokkaimpia tukemaan vanhempien minäpystyvyyttä.
Jatkotutkimusta tarvittaisiin lisäksi siis konkreettisten keinojen osalta. Kuten aiempi tutkimuskirjallisuus osoittaa, vanhempien minäpystyvyysuskomukset vaikuttavat vanhemmuuteen kokonaisvaltaisesti käyttäytymisen, kognition, tunteiden ja motivaation monimutkaisen vuorovaikutuksen kautta (Coleman & Karraker, 1998).
Lasten käytösongelmat alentavat vanhempien minäpystyvyyttä (Teti & Gelfand, 1991; Slagt ym., 2012), mikä voi heijastua vanhempien toimintaan esimerkiksi epäsuotuisten kasvatuskäytänteiden ja lapsen käyttäytymiseen liitettyjen kielteisten uskomusten kautta. Tämä on tärkeää ottaa huomioon perheen hakeutuessa tuen piiriin lapsen käytösongelmien vuoksi. Jotta

käytösongelmaisten lasten vanhempia voitaisiin tukea heidän vanhemmuudessaan, tulee interventioiden keskittyä tukemaan vanhempien minäpystyvyyttä. Vanhempien minäpystyvyys luo pohjan vanhemmuudelle ja toimii näin merkittävän pohjana lapsen kehitykselle.
