We offer you...

• Books and journals – printed and electronic, archive materials:

manuscripts, letter collections, pictures, special collections

• Places to read, write, study and work in groups. Library

premises in Åbo (4) and in Vasa (1). The Academill Library in Vasa will be inaugurated in January 2021.

Printed and electronic books

• More than 2 million printed books, access to over 500.000 e-books, Ebook Central and other platforms

• As a legal depository library ÅAUL has, at least, one copy of every book/journal printed in Finland

ÅAUL loans can be sent from Åbo-Vasa, Vasa-Åbo for free

Library card

• Pick up your card at any library desk. When you pick up the library card, you have to show a valid ID. The card is free of charge.

• Log in to Alma with HAKA and create a PIN code. PIN is needed for self check borrowing.

How do I borrow books?

• From open shelves: fetch the book yourself

• Requested books from stacks and reserved books must be picked up within a week, course books within 3 days after e-mail notice.

You’ll find these books on a self-service shelf under your surname

• Borrow the books at a self-checkout machine (or at the library desk)

• You will need your library card in order to borrow books + PIN code

Loan periods

• 28 days

• 14 days – coursebooks from the ASA Library or Academill

• Loans are renewed automatically and can be on loan for a maximum of 12/6 months if there are no reservations

• Reminders will be sent to you

Remember that you are responsible for your loans

Renew your loans or return your books on time. If not, you will lose your borrowing rights.

Fees for expired loans

• Daily fees for expired loans: Course books 1€/loan/day (max.

10€/loan) ; other items 0,30€/loan/day (max. 6 €/loan)

• In order to avoid any late fees you will need to return these books or bring them to the library for re-lending before the due date

• Lost books should either be replaced by a new copy of the book, if this is not possible, the replacement fee is a minimum of 60€/book

Opening hours and security

Opening hours can be found on the library website or the Alma portal.

Can rapidly change due to the covid-19 situation in the region.

In order to make your library visit as safe as possible for everyone we ask you to please make sure to keep your distance from staff and other library visitors. Please remember to keep a good hand hygiene and to cough or sneeze in a disposable

tissue. Use of face mask is compulsory. Do not visit the library if you have flu like symptoms.

Only every other seat is in use in the reading rooms and by the computers in order to better keep a safe distance. Reading rooms are available only for students at ÅA.

Please present your student card at the servicedesk. Only marked seats are in use.

The group study rooms are not in use until further notice.

Please note that max. 10 library customers can visit the library at a time.

How do I request and reserve books and journals in

Alma?

In the Arken, ASA and Axelia Libraries you’ll find most of the books on open shelves

The Book Tower has closed stacks, and the books and journals must be requested in Alma https://abo.finna.fi/

Charged books can be reserved in Alma. You’ll

receive an e-mail notice when the book is ready to be

picked up
