3 in 1 kit*:

bearing for the majority of vehicles on roads.

For some applications, Westlake lists a 3 in 1 kit (in line with the cross references) but does not supply the corresponding bearing.

Please note that for these applications, the bearing needs to be sourced separately. These clutch kits will be marked with 3in1* in the numerical index and will not have a bearing listed in the application index.

CSC:A concentric slave cylinder, also called hydraulic Bearing, is a component which replaces the traditional setup of a separate hydraulic cylinder, release arm,

cable and bearing.

Flywheel:The flywheel is a heavy shaft-mounted rotating disc that absorbs and stores motion and then releases it as energy. The flywheel provides momentum to the car engine.

Clutch Bearing:Also called 'clutch release bearing', transmits the power from the clutch release fork (which is activated by the clutch pedal) to the clutch pressure plate.

Clutch Disc:Also called 'clutch driven plate', guarantees a smooth operation of the clutch between the flywheel and the pressure plate. It also ensures that the engine vibrations towards the gears are reduced.

Clutch Cover:Also called 'clutch pressure plate', generates the pressure and transfers the torque from the flywheel to the pressure plate. It consists of the cover

itself, the diaphragm spring and the pressure plate.

CSC kit:This is a 3 in 1 kit which includes a CSC (Hydraulic bearing) instead of a normal bearing.

4 in 1 kit:Also called conversion kit, this is a 3 in 1 kit with the Rigid Flywheel included. These kits offer the possibility to fully replace a failed Dual Mass Flywheel.

Installation:

Adjustment:

Use and maintenance:

II. Check camshaft and gearbox seal to see if there is oil leakage.

III. Change the new flywheel or cover if you notice any troughs or uneven surfaces on the flywheel or pressure plate.

IV. Check whether the release bearing, bush or fork works properly, clean any impurities or dust inside of the gearbox or clutch.

V. Inspect whether the hydraulic control system works properly.

I. Clean up any oil marks on the flywheel or pressure plate, be sure to not get any dirt or grease on the disc facing or pressure plate, since this will damage the anti-rust oil which is present on a new pressure plate. This anti-rust oil should be cleaned up before the installation of the clutch.

II. Apply the special lubricating oil on the splines and fit the clutch disc onto the transmission's top shaft. Be sure to clean up any excess lubricating oil because this can cause shattering or slipping of the clutch.

III. Insert the specialized guiding spline into the bearing hole of the flywheel to center the clutch disc, then align the clutch cover with the flywheel dowel pins. Temporarily tighten 3 diagonally opposed bolts by hand, then fasten them with the spanner with approximately 1-2 circles. Do not fully fasten 1 bolt at a time and check the height of the diaphragm finger after all bolts are fastened.

IV. Take out the guiding spline and reinstall the gearbox, make sure that the crank shaft and top shaft are aligned in a straight line and take into consideration the height, tilt angle and teeth surface before reinstalling.

V. Make sure the correct bearing is fitted and installed properly. The bearing with the R ledge must match the flat diaphragm finger head, while the flat bearing must be used to match the diaphragm finger head with the R shape. The contact location between the bearing and the diaphragm finger should be 3-5mm higher than the diaphragm spring bore.

I. Heavily press the clutch pedal several times after installation then check the suitability of free travel. As usual, free travel should be:

25-40mm for passenger cars 30-60mm for trucks The effective travel should be:

100-140mm for passenger cars 140-180mm for trucks

II. Inspect the free clearance between the bearing and the diaphragm spring finger to ensure a value of Mini car clutch: 2-3mm

Light vehicles clutch: 3-4mm

Medium and heavy truck clutch: 4-5mm

III. Make adjustments according to each model manufacturer's regulations.

In order to ensure the life and optimal performance of the clutch, please load vehicles according to their capacity and always start in first gear. The clearance between the diaphragm spring fingers and the release bearing will gradually reduce after normal wear of the clutch facing; this should be checked regularly and adjusted when necessary. If not this can cause problems with the release bearing and diaphragm spring fingers, it can also cause clutch facing burning and may lead to other consequences.

Other consequences:

I. Any form of wrestling, beating, smashing, skid on clutches is forbidden because rough handling of the clutch can cause distortion and poor performance.

II. Do not exceed the stacking height limit indicated on the product boxes. The performance of the products in the lower layer can be destroyed by the products on top. Products stacked too high can fall down and cause injuries and affect the performance of the clutch.

III. Products should be stored in LLOCT preferably within the bottom layer of the empty space. Products should comply with the FIFO principle and last in, last out principle. Negative environment will result into damaged packaging or rust on products.

IV. Do not disassemble or modify Westlake products in any way. Any adjustments need to be done by using certain equipment and by people with professional knowledge. Westlake will not take any responsibility for disassembled, adjusted or modified products.

DMF has some shortcomings in particular in the aftermarket.

Due to frequent failures in certain components of the DMF the rate of warranty returns is high. This obviously causes customer dissatisfactions.

Warranty claims often come with high labour cost.

High costs force customers to look for alternative solutions.

Less stock level held in distributors due to high costs.

Westlake now brings on the market 4 Pieces Clutch Kits. These kits offer the possibility to fully replace a failed DMF. This results into the following main advantages:

Large cost savings

High rate of customer satisfaction

Better durability due to simpler built-up of 4 Pieces Clutch Kits

Equal performance as OE

More and more vehicles are produced with a dual mass flywheel system. Regardless of the DMF's advantages, DMF has some shortcomings in particular in the aftermarket.
