In the future, it would be recommended that there would be more researches conducted about tourism in the public sector. Tourism business is increasing in Finland and there is a need for new studies about collaboration between small- and medium-sized businesses in the field of tourism. It is important to create knowledge about tourism networks, collaboration support and the best practices in Finland. Considering the public sector, it would be interesting to see how cities are adapting new technologies and tools and using them in collaboration and innovation processes.

Moreover, similar research about different stakeholders’ experiences would be recommended. The results would reveal if there are still the same positive and negative effects in city planning projects. Additionally, the research would introduce how the communication issues could be solved inside the public organizations’ departments?

The practical contribution of my research was to provide neutral knowledge about the experiences of collaboration and innovations in the public sector. The result of this thesis will support the argument that the public sector benefits from open innovation model in city renewal processes and tourism more than using bureaucratic closed innovation models. As another result of my research, there is new knowledge presented about the tourism business development in the area of Vantaa. Knowledge may be

beneficial for those who work in the public sector, in tourism business in Finland or to the stakeholders which are operating in city renewal processes. The results may encourage other cities to consider the concept of open innovations in the processes of developing city planning. The data and results of the thesis may relieve the actors planning, decision-making and budgeting, for example.
