The research implies that there is a demand for a new and more holistic approach to city development. There are also implications that the current value-chain-based de-velopment model could be replaced with a new model that is based on platform-thinking and co-development.

Current models are not focusing enough attention on the responsibility, accessibility, and integration as key development drivers for the city. These themes can be seen as areas of key importance when the goal of the development is to maximize the value for parties involved. The need to consider these themes is highlighted in large scale greenfield projects such as integrating the aviation areas into cities surrounding them. There are also implications that the development of aviation areas should shift their focus from airport development into city development, to gain better results.

Currently, most of the themes suggested for the new development model are being discussed in the development of aviation areas, but there is not a standardized form for the process. The lack of standardization leads to a situation where most of these factors are considered too late in the development process. By using an analyzed and normalized process these factors can be more easily controlled.

There is also a need to consider these matters in an earlier stage of development because the greatest impacts can be achieved in areal or even regional design. In most cases, the highest efficiency solutions can be implemented at these larger scales, instead of the single project level.

There are also implications that the model developed for the context of aviation areas could also be used in other large scale development. As can be seen from figure 14.

the general development model created in this research can be applied to other en-vironments than aviation areas simply by changing the parties and value factors to meet the new environment.

Relevancy of the new city development model created in this research should be assessed in further studies. The process created as a result of this research could be applied as a holistic city development model. However, for the model to function as a holistic model of city development the basic assumptions need to be adjusted and re-evaluated if the development environment will be changed.

Because the research was conducted as a literature study, the new model created in this research should be tested in an actual development project. By testing the model in action, the need for development and adjustment of the model could be found. There could also be lessons learned and value-added to the model by inter-viewing the key parties of development projects around the world and their lessons that they have learned in projects already conducted. After testing the model in prac-tice and benchmarking it with a conducted project the model could be adjusted to a more holistic working model for city development.
