Media Geographies is a book about how spatial
constraints of human communities configure and define our existence in the world. Its point of departure is the media portrayal of a small nation-state, Finland, during an exceptionally deep economic depression.
Through a multifaceted analysis of the regional newspapers, social statistics, and cultural history, different regions emerge with their own history:
the past, the present, and ways of addressing the future. The author shows how media, economy, and history interact in a media market that recreates and shapes specific cultures in space and time.¶
