the years 1965-66. The previous data were published in No_ 225 of this publication. A new station, that of Seili/Själb, was established in the neighbourhood of Station 20, Jungfruskär, in September, 1966. This station replaced the latter at the beginning of 1967. At the beginning of 1965, surface observations were moved from Tankar to another site, iriäraskär, which is situated some 4 nautical miles south-east from Tankar; observations in the depth were made at the original site in 1965, and 5 nautical miles south-east from the original siten in 1966.

All stations were inspected during the summer cruises of rs/S Aranda.

THE 1, ASUREL:EEHTS AND SASIPLI\G. The working programme of the stations remained practically unchanged and was as follows:

Measurement of surface temperature at the shore and at the lightship 1-3 times daily, generally at 8, 14 and 20h A daily sample for salinity determination was also taken at Kaivopuisto/Brunnsparken (Helsinki harbour).

Collection of surface samples for salinity determination at the shore and at the lightship six times monthly, generally on the 1st, 11th, 16th, 21st, and 26th at 14h .

Measurement of temperature and collection of water samples for salinity determination at a series of depths (0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30 m, etc.) at a fixed position of the gratest possible depth in the sea close to the station and beneath the lightship 3 times a month, 'eather permitting, on the 1st, 11th, and 21st at 14h . At Tvärminne B the samples have been taken at four depths to 2.5 m.

THE TABLES. The surface observations and the observations in the depth at the same station are found side by side in the tables.

All temperatures are in centigrade and corrected. Only some of the three daily observations, i.e.

those taken at 14h, of the surface temperatures are published. The monthly means only are given of the others. The depth temperatures are given in extenso.

Temperature means are given in parenthesis when more than 10 % of the daily values are missing.

The annual means have been calculated directly from the monthly ones. If winter temperature observations are lacking, the annual means are not given. In the calculation of the means, some missing data have been interpolated.

Salinity was determined by Hytech portable laboratory salinometer whose sensitivity is better than 0.01 per mille. International oceanographic tables were used in the calculations.

The monthly means of salinity have been calculated on the basis of all material available: if the number of the surface observations exceeded the regular number of six a month, the extra values are included in the means whereas the missing data have not been interpolated. The individual values which are low as a probable result of melting water from ice are given in parenthesis. These values 'nave not been included in the monthly means. The means which are based on incomplete data are given in parenthesis.

The annual salinity means have been calculated on the basis of the monthly ones.

The time given in this publication is Finnish Standard Time, i.e., GMT + 2h .
