Recommended 25-30 ECTS/semester (5 or 6 courses), 1 ECTS = 1 study credit

Scope of the courses: Usually 5 ECTS/course

For 1 ECTS you need to study for 27 hours,

For example for 5 ECTS you need to study 5 x 27 = 135 hours = about 3,5 weeks of full-time job

The general grading scale used at the University of Helsinki is a six-stage scale:

5 = excellent 4 = very good 3 = good

2 = satisfactory 1 = adequate 0 = fail

Also pass/fail -scale can be used.

• Mode of instruction in autumn 2021

• Teaching is organized mostly online, some courses use “hybrid method”, meaning that there are both online and on campus sessions

• Zoom will be used (for some courses lectures might be also recorded, but not all)

• Follow instructions and scheduling given by a teacher of a course!

• Modes of instruction in courses

• Essays, learning diaries, book exams, exams

• Be active, think and question what you learn!

Balancing individual thinking and respect for original sources:

Individual thinking is appreciated & expected

Respect for original sources when writing (Google APA guidelines for citing!) In practice:

Written assignments and other works claimed as the student’s work have actually been completed by the student in question.

Only the permitted study aids and implements are used in examinations

Course attendance is recorded accurately

The student provides sufficient relevant information on his or her own work and complies with the teacher’s instructions and general provisions.

CORONA VIRUS SITUATION

COMMON RULES OF THE UNIVERSITY

• Do not come to the campuses when ill. Assess your need for testing on Omaolo service.

• Be sure to practise extremely careful hand and coughing hygiene.

• Leave room for others, and always keep a distance of one to two metres from others, whenever possible. Please do not move the furniture (e.g. chairs) in such a way that makes observing safe social distancing impossible.

• Avoid unnecessary contact.

• Please remember to clean any equipment in joint use after using it.

• Use a protective face mask.

UNIVERSITY'S OPERATIONS DURING AUTUMN 2021

• Autumn’s teaching has been planned for the autumn semester, and changes will not be made without a weighty reason. If teaching arrangements were to change, the

information will be updated on Sisu and Courses. Students will be informed about the changes if necessary.

• As a rule, buildings and teaching facilities will be open as usual. You can find information on the University buildings' opening hours on the University website.

• Self-access facilities (e.g. Aleksandria and Minerva) have been opened, and others will be opened when possible.

• The recommendation for wearing a facemask in University premises remains valid until further notice. In addition, safe social distancing must be always observed whenever possible to prevent exposure.

study psychologists, offers tips for facilitating remote studying and creating new routines.

• From the Mental well-being page you can find more information about support services that can help you deal with the worry and anxiety caused by the coronavirus situation.

Study psychologists, University chaplains, Nyyti ry and the Finnish Student Health Service among others will gladly help you.

• The international exchange students at the Faculty of Educational Sciences are entitled to take part in study units in which teaching is given in English, if there are places left. There might be a demand for previous studies (eg in special education courses)

• The courses offered in English are intermediate and advanced- level studies from the collection of courses offered by the different study programmes at the Faculty of Educational Sciences (e.g.

general and adult education, and Subject Teacher Education Program in English (STEP), Changing Education programme).

• Altogether you can choose 30 credits (ECTSs) in Educational Sciences during the semester

• If you will stay the whole academic year, please pay attention to those courses which will be organized in both autumn and spring terms.
