“Insightful Encounters - Regional Development and Practice–Based Learning”

Conference on Regional Development and Innovation Processes

March 5th-7th, 2008 Porvoo - Borgå, Finland Call for Papers / 24.8.2007

The objective of the conference

The objective of the conference is to deepen our understanding of regional development, learning and innovation activity from the viewpoint of practice- based –theorizing. The idea is that the conference in itself will be constructed as a new kind of learning space by enabling dialogue and multi-voiced encounters for people, science and art, theoretical ideas, approaches (bottom- up/top-down), new methods, cases and narratives - related to regional development, innovation processes and learning. Insightful encounters might be something that can not just be ordered, presented, or performed – they are rather something that we may take part in and learn from. The conference will be realized in cooperation with different kind of actors.

Participants

Researchers, practitioners, lecturers, entrepreneurs, students and other actors involved in regional development. Participants limited to 100.

Keynote speakers

Silvia Gherardi, prof., University of Trento; Kenneth Gergen, prof., Swarthmore College; Hanna Toiviainen, researcher, PhD, University of Helsinki & Anne Äyväri, researcher, D.Sc.(Econ.), HAAGA-HELIA & Laurea, Universities of Applied Sciences. Others will be specified later.

Preliminary themes for sessions (abstracts addressed directly to the themes)

1. Regional Innovation Processes, 2. Benchlearning between Regional Innovations, 3. Learning Networks – Evaluating the Effects, 4. Innovation at Workplace – Collaboration around Innovation, Learning and Productivity, 5.

The Scandinavian Model of Regional Innovation, 6. Action Research in Regional Development and Innovation Activity, 7. Mediators in Regional Development and Learning, 8. Learning as Identity Construction, 9. Corporate Social Responsibility in Regional Development and Innovation Processes, 10.

Designing Region, 11. Methodological Experiments and 12. Open theme.

Important dates

Deadline for submission of abstracts (500 words) 30.9.2007. Authors will be notified after review process by 31.10.2007; Full papers (6000 words) or descriptions (1000 words) of other contributions (performance, installation, event, film, etc.) should be submitted by 31.1.2008. Abstracts should be

addressed directly to the themes, to e-mail: encounters08@haaga-helia.fi or to the e-mail address will be informed later in the 2nd Call for Papers.

The website of the conference will be opened by 15.9.2007. All the abstracts, papers and descriptions accepted will be published at the website.
